Most every piece I’ve ever made has been special to me in one
way or another. From the very first panel I made for my lovely wife, to the palm tree commissioned for a place in Florida, they all have a lot of my spirit in them. I love stained glass because of the properties of light. A piece can look different from day to night and in ever changing light conditions. Sunlight especially can make a piece come alive!
I know how frustrating it can be to find the perfect piece for that specific spot, and I believe that beautiful art should be affordable to everyone. Below is an example of ordering a stained glass piece from me. Just the basics. There is much involved in the process, so please contact me for more details and let’s work together to create that perfect work of art just for you!
Consider a design.Where will your work of art live? Will the piece be hanging in a window? Sitting on a mantle above a fireplace? A screen for the fireplace? Natural or artificial light? Be sure to have an idea of the size you would like. Actual measurements are the most helpful!
Consider the ColorsI’m a big fan of blue and green myself. But sometimes my favorite colors don’t match the décor of the room! Think about what colors might look best in that space. With glass there are many shades of colors along with an almost endless variety of textures and blends that can be used as well! If it’s for a window do you want colors coming through or a clear glass privacy style panel? Maybe both?
Have a favorite flower? Favorite bird? Favorite picture? Almost any image can be turned into glass. What sort of edging will you want around your glass? Wood framed? Zinc came? Will the piece be freestanding, hanging or three dimensional? Most people know what they want, but have a hard time finding it. A piece from Bluefeather Glass is guaranteed to be exactly what you want before we even start to build it!
You’ve thought a little about the space, colors, design. Contact me and we’ll talk about your ideas. I’ll give you my thoughts on how that will look in glass, and we’ll begin the design process!
I use the GlassEye 2000 computer program for my designs. This gives me the flexibility to tweak your design until it is exactly what you want. During the rough design phase, we will be working through the image, the colors and the types of glass for your masterpiece. You will get an estimate for a price as well at this phase. We will rework it until it is absolutely correct.
Once everything is to your satisfaction, we go to final design. You will get a rendering of what your finished piece will look like. Included in the final design will be a complete breakdown of materials used as well, so you will know exactly how much the finished piece will cost. Once that is signed off, it goes into production.
I do most of my work in the copper foil method. Production time varies depending on the size, number of pieces, and complexity. After cutting and grinding the glass, fitting and foiling the pieces, and soldering it all together, you’ll have a one of a kind work of art all your own! I do all of my own framing whether it be oak or cherry wood, or zinc came. All you need to know is what you like!
Estimated time to build: Varies depending on size and complexity
Cost: $10 - $25 /sq. foot. All prices are subject to design and materials.
